Highlighted Sessions:

“I’m a Court Leader (we are ALL leaders)… Now What?!”- Two-Part Workshop Presented by Janet G. Cornell

With a new generation of future court leaders, early career professionals moving into leadership responsibilities, and many new appointees to a court leadership role (court administrator, director, manager, clerk), some incumbents may wonder about important actions they should take to be successful as court professionals. This session will summarize court leadership responsibilities, strategies and actions - note tangible techniques – that an aspiring, new, or experienced court leader may consider to be successful. Techniques include knowing yourself, knowing the job expectations, being ready to interact successfully with court and system representatives, and contributing to the profession. Attendees will share and gain ideas on how to position themselves for professional skill enhancement. Session materials and discussions will review techniques and provide for action planning.

Learning objectives include:

  1. Become aware of tangible actions that an aspiring, new, or seasoned court leader may take for increased professional success and satisfaction.
  2. Discuss and share questions, concerns, ideas, and lessons learned.
  3. Begin and share a personal plan for actions and strategies.

NOTE: a companion article was published in the National Association for Court Management, “Court Manager,” May 2024, and related summary postings are on www.courtleader.net.

It addresses current challenges such as inefficiencies in paper-based workflows, long processing times, and limited accessibility for citizens.

The main benefits of automation include increased efficiency, better accessibility, and cost savings. Automating processes reduces errors, speeds up case handling, and makes court services more accessible through online portals and payments. The presentation outlines key areas for improvement including case management, document handling, scheduling, and citizen engagement.

This presentation encourages embracing innovation, starting with small projects, and collaborating with others to successfully modernize court operations and improve service delivery to the public.
